To Serve to Guests or on Special Occasions: Good Luck Tea with Black Soy Beans

  1. Prepare enough hot green (Japanese) tea per person.
  2. The tea is best if it is brewed on the strong side.
  3. Line a heatproof dish with parchment paper and arange about 50 g of black soy beans in a circle.
  4. The center should be empty (anything in the center will burn easily)
  5. Microwave at 500 w for 1 minute and 30 seconds.
  6. This should dry out the beans.
  7. Let the beans cool down.
  8. Place the beans from Step 3 into a teacup, along with the umeboshi and whatever other ingredients you have chosen.
  9. I added ume - shiso knots.
  10. Gently pour in the hot tea from step 1.
  11. Let the ingredients steep for about 1 minute, and enjoy!
  12. Variation: I made it with Ume Kombu Tea Here I omitted the umeboshi.
