German Chocolate Cake
- 1 c. shortening
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. German sweet chocolate
- 2 5/8 c. flour
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 4 egg whites
- Cream shortening and sugar; add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after every addition.
- Dissolve chocolate in boiling water; cool slightly and add to egg mixture.
- Sift flour, salt and soda together.
- Add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk. Mix well and add vanilla.
- Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter.
- Pour into 3 greased cake pans.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 25 minutes or until done; check with toothpick or if it springs back when touched.
- Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting.
