- 1/4 cups Chopped Yellow Onion
- 1 clove Garlic, Diced
- 1/4 teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes
- 1- 1/2 cup Crushed Tomatoes (opt For Canned If You Like, Or Give A Few Fresh Tomatoes A Quick Whirl In The Food Processor)
- 1 pinch Salt And Pepper, to taste
- 1 pound Your Favorite Pizza Dough
- 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- 1 cup Fresh Arugula
- 1.
- Preheat oven to 400 F.
- 2.
- Heat a medium saucepan over high heat.
- Add sausage and cook, breaking it up into chunks with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
- Cook sausage, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through, about 8 minutes.
- 3.
- Remove cooked sausage to a bowl and return saucepan to the stove over medium heat.
- 4.
- Add onion and garlic to saucepan and saute until onion is translucent, about 3 minutes.
- 5.
- Add red pepper flakes, crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper to saucepan and stir to combine.
- Bring sauce to a simmer, then remove from heat and set aside.
- 6.
- Press pizza dough into a pizza pan.
- Top dough with tomato sauce, followed by the mozzarella, and finally the cooked Italian sausage.
- 7.
- Bake pizza at 400 F for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted and crust is lightly browned.
- Remove from oven.
- 8.
- Top baked pizza with fresh arugula.
- I like to set it in a pile at the center of the pizza, but you could also give it a rough chop and scatter it over the top if you arent a big fan of huge arugula leaves.
- 9.
- Slice and serve immediately.
