Mom's Fried Walnuts
- 4 cups walnut halves
- 12 cup granulated sugar
- 2 quarts water
- vegetable oil
- salt
- Preheat oil in a stock pot to 350 degrees (medium high heat).
- In a large stock pot boil water.
- Add Walnut halves and boil for 1 minute.
- Drain walnuts in a colander and rinse with very hot water.
- In a large bowl, gently stir walnuts with sugar until sugar dissolves.
- Let stand for 5 minutes if necessary.
- Fry walnuts in hot oil until golden brown (about 5 minutes).
- Drain walnuts and sprinkle slightly with salt.
