Flora's Manhattan
- 1 beef roast (however large you want)
- 1 cornstarch *amount varies
- 1 Kitchen bouquet *amount varies
- 1 salt and pepper to taste.
- 1 prepared mashed taters
- In a crockpot or a dutch oven place your roast inside and cover with water just to the top.
- put the lid on and cook low and slow until tender
- remove the roast onto a plate, let cool.
- now your going to have all this yummy broth left.
- This we turn into a gravy.
- Now turn your crock pot to high and let the broth get hot.
- (if you have a lot of broth left just get a cup and take some out if you feel its too much)
- in a bowl combine a couple tablespoons of cornstarch to COLD water until it is thin enough to pour.
- slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the hot broth, stirring the entire time.
- You are thickening the broth and you may need to repeat this steps a few times until you get the consistency you like.
- add in a dash of kitchen bouquet to brown your gravy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Shred the roast and add back to the broth.
- On a plate lay down a slice of bread then top with your mashed taters, making a well inside to hole your meat and gravy.
- *sometimes I cook my roast in a packet of onion soup mix.
- I didn't do that today though.
