Traditional Bread
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water(105 to115 degres
- 1 3/4 cup warm water
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp shortning
- 6 cup all purpose flour
- dissolve yeast in the half cup warm water.
- stir in the other water,sugar,salt,shortning and 3 1/2cups flour,beat until smooth
- mix in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle, turn dough onto lightly floured board,knead until smooth & elastic about 10 minutes
- place in greased bowl,turn greased side up,cover let rise in warm place until double about 1 hour,dough is ready if impression remains
- punch down dough divide in half,roll each half into rectangles 18x9 roll up begining at short side.with side of hand press each end to seal.
- fold ends under loaf,press seam side down in greased koaf pan,brush loaves lightly with butter
- let rise until double about an hour.
- preheat oven to 350F bake 25 to 30 minutes until deep golden brown and sound hollow when tapped
- remove from pans,brush lightley with butter cool on wire rack,
active dry yeast, water, sugar, salt, shortning, flour
