Slovak Jam Squares Recipe

  1. Cream butter and sugar; add in vanilla and egg yolks and cream together.
  2. Add in sifted flour, baking pwdr and soda and mix.
  3. Gather up dough and knead a few times.
  4. Put in 8 x 8 inch or possibly 9 x 9 inch pan and pat out dough to cover bottom.
  5. Spread dough with plum butter or possibly jam.
  6. Over jam spread egg whites, stiffly beaten with 2 Tbsp.
  7. sugar and sprinkle with nuts.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees about 30 min or possibly till top is lightly browned.
  9. Cut in squares.
