Slovak Jam Squares Recipe
- 1/4 pound butter or possibly stick butter
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1/2 c. nut meats
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 egg whites
- Plum butter or possibly jam
- Cream butter and sugar; add in vanilla and egg yolks and cream together.
- Add in sifted flour, baking pwdr and soda and mix.
- Gather up dough and knead a few times.
- Put in 8 x 8 inch or possibly 9 x 9 inch pan and pat out dough to cover bottom.
- Spread dough with plum butter or possibly jam.
- Over jam spread egg whites, stiffly beaten with 2 Tbsp.
- sugar and sprinkle with nuts.
- Bake at 350 degrees about 30 min or possibly till top is lightly browned.
- Cut in squares.
