Christmas Cookies

  1. Cream the butter and 1/2 cup sugar.
  2. Beat in the salt and egg yolks.
  3. Add the flour kneading with your hands to make a soft dough.
  4. Pat in bottom of a 10x15-inch jelly roll pan.
  5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in 350 oven or until lightly browned.
  6. Remove from oven and spread with jam and chocolate chips.
  7. In a deep bowl, beat the egg whites with a rotary or electric beater until stiff peaks form.
  8. Use a rubber spatula, fold in the chopped nuts and 1 cup sugar.
  9. Spread over jam.
  10. Bake 25 minutes at 350.
  11. Cool 15 minutes, cut into 30 bars while still warm.
