Beer Baked Beans
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 onions, chopped Safeway 3 lb For $2.99 thru 02/09
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 x 440g cans white beans, rinsed and drained
- 375mls beer
- 1/4 cup golden syrup
- 2 tablespoons VEGEMITE
- 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- French toast, for serving
- Crispy cooked bacon, for serving
- HEAT the oil in a large saucepan and saute the onion for 5 minutes or until golden.
- Add the garlic and cook for a further minute.
- Stir in the beans, beer, golden syrup, VEGEMITE, vinegar, tomato paste and mustard.
- Simmer gently for 20-25 minutes or until the sauce has thickened .
- Serve with French toast and bacon.
- Note: Beer baked beans will keep, refrigerated for several days; in fact they will become even tastier as the flavours mingle.
