Greek Meat Pie Recipe
- 1 pound grnd beef chuck, lean
- 1 pound grnd lamb, lean
- 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 2 onions, minced
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. oregano, crushed
- 1 c. tomato sauce
- healthy pinch of cinnamon
- 2 Large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 c. butter, melted
- 12 sheets Phyllo pastry
- In a skillet, saute/fry grnd meat in extra virgin olive oil with onions till browned.
- Season with salt, oregano and pepper.
- Add in tomato sauce, cinnamon.
- In a small bowl, beat Large eggs and stir in cheese.
- When grnd meat has cooled, mix in the Large eggs and cheese mix.
- Butter a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Arrange six sheets of Phyllo pastry on bottom of pan, buttering each sheet.
- Spread a layer of cooled meat mix proportionately on Phyllo.
- Cover with remaining six sheets, brushing each with melted butter.
- Trim edges of Phyllo to fit pan with a sharp knife.
- Slice through top of pastry to create diamond shapes.
- Bake in a preheated 350
