Family Tree Cookies
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar firmlypacked
- 23 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups flour, all-purpose
- 13 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups chocolate chips miniature, semisweet
- icing
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons water
- decoration
- 1 x gumdrops spearmint leafshaped
- 1 x cookies sugar, leaves, cut from scraps of sugar shield cookies
- Preheat oven to 375F (190C) F .
- Line cookie sheet with foil.
- Combine brown sugar, shortening, water and vanilla in large bowl.
- Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
- Mix into creamed mixture at low speed just until blended.
- Refrigerate dough at least one hour.
- Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
- Bake at 375F (190C) (180C) for 9 to 11 minutes, or until cookie is set.
- DO NOT OVERBAKE.
- For icing, combine icing sugar and 3 tablespoons (45 mL)
- If using cookie leaves tint remaining icing with green food colouring.
