Family Tree Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 375F (190C) F .
  2. Line cookie sheet with foil.
  3. Combine brown sugar, shortening, water and vanilla in large bowl.
  4. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
  5. Mix into creamed mixture at low speed just until blended.
  6. Refrigerate dough at least one hour.
  7. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
  8. Bake at 375F (190C) (180C) for 9 to 11 minutes, or until cookie is set.
  9. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
  10. For icing, combine icing sugar and 3 tablespoons (45 mL)
  11. If using cookie leaves tint remaining icing with green food colouring.
