Apple Pandowdy (Ojakangas) Recipe
- 4 x Apples, tart
- 1/2 c. Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon, grnd
- 1/4 tsp -Salt
- 1/4 c. Molasses or possibly tightly packed b
- 1/2 c. -Water
- 1 c. Flour
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking pwdr
- 1/4 tsp -Salt
- 1/2 c. Butter or possibly shortening
- 1/3 c. Lowfat milk
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Lightly butter a shallow 1 1/2-to 2-qt baking dish.
- Pare the apples and slice.
- Place in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp.
- salt.
- Mix molasses ands water and pour over the apples.
- In a mixing bowl, combineflour, baking pwdr,and 1/4 tsp.
- salt.
- Cut in butter or possibly shortening, till mix resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add in lowfat milk and mix till dough holds together in a ball.
- On a lightly floured board, roll out dough to a thickness of about 1/3 inch to fit the top of the casserole.
- Place over apples.
- Cut vents in the top.
- Bake 20 to 25 min, till golden brown.
