Apple Pandowdy (Ojakangas) Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Lightly butter a shallow 1 1/2-to 2-qt baking dish.
  2. Pare the apples and slice.
  3. Place in the bottom of the baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp.
  5. salt.
  6. Mix molasses ands water and pour over the apples.
  7. In a mixing bowl, combineflour, baking pwdr,and 1/4 tsp.
  8. salt.
  9. Cut in butter or possibly shortening, till mix resembles coarse crumbs.
  10. Add in lowfat milk and mix till dough holds together in a ball.
  11. On a lightly floured board, roll out dough to a thickness of about 1/3 inch to fit the top of the casserole.
  12. Place over apples.
  13. Cut vents in the top.
  14. Bake 20 to 25 min, till golden brown.
