Gifts From the Kitchen: Homemade Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Vodka
- 5 whole Vanilla Beans Split Lengthwise
- 1 whole 2 Quart Mason Jar With Lid And Ring, Sterilized Or Your Preferred Size Of Decorative Jars
- You can make as much as you like.
- But the ratio is 5 beans per 1 cup of vodka.
- Measure vodka into jar(s).
- Add 5 split vanilla beans per cup of vodka.
- Seal the jar and set it into your pantry and allow it to steep or cure for at least 6 weeks before using.
- After curing bottle it in 4 ounce brown Boston round bottle or a similar type bottle.
- When the extract gets low you may pour more vodka in to keep the bottle going.
- Dont waste the beans after curing.
- Rinse them off well and add them to a jar of sugar to make vanilla sugar.
- You can also grind dried vanilla beans into a powder and add to sugar to make vanilla sugar.
