Glazed Pearl Onions

  1. Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the onions.
  3. Cook, tossing occasionally, until beginning to brown, about 5 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle with the sugar; season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add 2/3 cup water and the thyme; cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are tender and the liquid has evaporated, about 20 minutes.
