Apple Dumplings
- 1 egg
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 6 apples, peeled, cored and cut into quarters
- cinnamon-sugar to taste
- 1/2 c. (1 stick) plus 6 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
- vanilla to taste
- In mixing bowl, whisk together egg and milk.
- Sift in flour, baking powder and salt.
- Stir to make a soft dough.
- Turn out on floured board and knead lightly.
- Roll and cut in 6 equal squares. Place 4 apple quarters in center of each square, bringing up corners of dough to enclose apple.
- Pinch and seal.
- Place dumplings in a large pan, not touching.
- Bake in preheated oven at 425u0b0 for 10 minutes.
- Reduce oven temperature to 350u0b0 and bake 45 minutes longer.
- Test by pricking with toothpick.
- If apples are tender, they are done.
- Sprinkle with a little cinnamon-sugar.
