Braised Anise Beef Recipe
- 2 lb Beef chuck
- 1 x Clove garlic
- 2 Tbsp. Oil
- 3 Tbsp. Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp. Water
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Sherry
- 1 dsh Pepper
- 2 x Cloves star anise
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1.
- Leave beef whole.
- Crush garlic.
- 2.
- Heat oil in a heavy pan.
- Brown beef quickly on all sides.
- 3.
- Add in garlic, soy sauce, water, salt, sherry, pepper and star anise, and heat.
- Simmer, covered, 1 hour.
- (Use an asbestos pad so meat will not burn.)
- 4.
- Turn meat.
- Add in sugar and simmer slowly 1 hour more.
- Serve warm or possibly cool.
- NOTE: If the meat gets too dry during cooking, add in 1 Tbsp.
- water mixed with 1 Tbsp.
