Braised Anise Beef Recipe

  2. Leave beef whole.
  3. Crush garlic.

  5. Heat oil in a heavy pan.
  6. Brown beef quickly on all sides.

  8. Add in garlic, soy sauce, water, salt, sherry, pepper and star anise, and heat.
  9. Simmer, covered, 1 hour.
  10. (Use an asbestos pad so meat will not burn.)
  11. 4.
  12. Turn meat.
  13. Add in sugar and simmer slowly 1 hour more.
  14. Serve warm or possibly cool.
  15. NOTE: If the meat gets too dry during cooking, add in 1 Tbsp.
  16. water mixed with 1 Tbsp.
  17. soy sauce.
