Brown Soda Bread
- 1 12 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 14 cup toasted wheat bran
- 2 tablespoons flax seed meal
- 14 cup old fashioned oats
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
- 1 12 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 14 cup molasses
- 34 cup buttermilk
- Preheat oven to 425F Grease and flour a Pullman or standard loaf pan.
- Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
- Melt butter in large measuring cup.
- Add vegetable oil and buttermilk to cup.
- Pour liquids into dry ingredients, stir quickly to combine.
- Do not over mix.
- Transfer dough to prepared loaf pan, spread into corners and smooth top.
- Bake until bread is dark brown and tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 40 minutes.
- Turn bread out onto rack to cool.
- Cool at least 1 hour before slicing.
