Roman Apple Cake
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/8 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. cloves (optional)
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 c. raw apples
- 1 Tbsp. margarine
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/3 c. brown sugar
- 2 tsp. flour
- 1/4 c. rolled oats
- Combine in mixing bowl sugar, flour, salt, baking powder, soda, cloves and cinnamon.
- Beat in shortening, eggs, milk and vanilla.
- Add 3 cups raw apples, pared and chopped.
- Mix well. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Crumble together melted margarine, cinnamon, brown sugar, flour and oats.
- Place on top.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
