Candied Sweet Potatoes, Cinnamon And Cloves Recipe
- You may gasp over the amount of sugar, but it is correct. Adjust to taste.
- 6 c. water
- 4 c. sugar
- 6 x (6-oz) piloncillo cones (Mexican brown sugar cones) or possibly 4 1/2 c. dark brown sugar
- 2 x (3 inch) cinnamon sticks
- 6 whl cloves
- 1 tsp anise seed and lemon juice to taste (optional)
- For syrup, pour water into a medium saucepan.
- Add in sugar, piloncillo, cinnamon cloves, anise and lemon juice; cook 2 1/2 hrs or possibly till syrup is thick and the consistency of molasses.
- Strain.
