HeathersArk Old Fashioned Apple Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Melt butter in saucepan, stir in flour to form a paste.
  3. Add water, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla.
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce temperature and simmer.
  5. Peel, core and slice apples into 1/4" thick slices.
  6. Toss apples in sauce.
  7. Reserve 2T of sauce to pour over pie.
  8. Place bottom crust in your pie pan.
  9. Fill with apples, they will mound up.
  10. Take other pie pastry and slice into 1" strips (this will be used to create a lattice top for pie).
  11. Cover apples with a lattice pattern using pastry you sliced into strips.
  12. Once pie is covered in lattice, take remaining 2 T of sauce and pour over pie.
  13. If you have a course sugar you can sprinkle that on top as well.
  14. Bake 15 minutes in preheated (425F degree oven).
  15. REDUCE HEAT to 350 and continue baking for 35-45 minutes, until apples are soft.
