West Indies Guava Barbecue Sauce
- 1 ripe guava, peeled and chopped
- 15 oz. tomato sauce
- 6 oz. tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup brown sugar twin
- 2 tbsp. liquid smoke
- 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp. pickapeppa sauce (may substitute Worcestershire sauce)
- 1 tbsp. habanero pepper sauce (this is hot- so amount to taste)
- 1 tbsp. garlic powder
- 1 tbsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. tamarind paste (may substitute molasses)
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- Whisk ingredients together in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Lower heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Puree cooled sauce in a food processor for a smoother texture, if desired.
- Refrigerate or freeze any unused portions.
