Travados(Honey and Almond Turnovers)

  1. OVEN: 350F (180C) Combine oil, 13 cup water and sugar; add enough flour to make a soft dough.
  2. Knead til smooth.
  3. Divide dough into 35 pieces.
  4. Set aside.
  5. FILLING: Mix together almonds, 1 tablespoon water and enough honey to make a stiff paste.
  6. Add cinnamon and cloves.
  7. Press a piece of dough into a 4- inch round and fill with 1 teaspoon filling.
  8. Fold and seal.
  9. Repeat with remaining 34 dough pieces.
  10. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes or til light brown.
  11. TO SERVE: Boil travados 3 minutes in syrup in batches.
  12. Drain and cool.
  13. SYRUP: Add all syrup ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
