Mahal (Macaroni Pudding W/Pears)

  1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C).
  2. Cook macaroni in boiling salted water for 10 minutes.
  3. Drain well of all liquid & return macaroni to saucepan.
  4. Add the milk & cream & simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove pan from heat & allow mixture to cool slightly.
  6. Add sugar & stir till it is dissolved.
  7. Add butter, lemon peel, ground almonds & the beaten egg yolks.
  8. Stir well.
  9. Whip egg whites & fold them gently into the mixture.
  10. Pour half of the mixture into a buttered baking dish lrg enough to hold the pears in 1 layer.
  11. Arrange the pears on top & finish by layering the rest of the macaroni mixture atop the pears.
  12. Bake for 30 minutes & serve hot.
