Wiener Burgers with Main Dog Slaw
- 2 cups slaw mix
- 1/2 cup chopped red onion
- 1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
- 1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
- Dash of hot pepper sauce
- 6 short, fat, fully cooked bratwursts or other hot dogs
- 6 slices Swiss cheese (optional)
- 6 hamburger buns
- COMBINE all the slaw ingredients in a medium bowl.
- Blend well, cover, and refrigerate until serving time.
- HEAT the broiler.
- Slice the bratwursts lengthwise until almost cut through.
- Place on a baking sheet.
- BROIL the brats about 4 inches from the heat source until seared on both sides and warmed throughout.
- (You can also brown the brats in a skillet over medium heat.)
- TOP with the cheese (if you like) and broil (or cover the skillet) and cook an additional minute until the cheese melts.
- PLACE a wiener on each bun and pile on the slaw.
