Mom's Turnips Au Gratin Recipe
- 1 1/2 lbs. diced fresh turnips
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tbsp. butter
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 3/4 c. lowfat milk
- Pepper
- 1 c. cheddar cheese
- Cook turnips for 20 min with salt and sugar.
- Drain.
- In saucepan, heat butter and blend with flour.
- Gradually stir in lowfat milk till it thickens, stir in cheese and pepper.
- Put turnips in a 1 1/2 qt casserole and cover with the cheese sauce.
- Sprinkle with bread crumbs.
- Bake at 375 degrees till brown, approximately 30 min.
