Mom's Favorite Brownies
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 cups sugar granulated
- 1 cup brown sugar, light
- 23 cup corn syrup, dark
- 6 large eggs
- 6 ounces chocolate unsweetened
- 2 cups flour, all-purpose
- 2 cups walnuts coarsely broken
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- Butter the bottom and sides of two 8x8 inch square pans.
- In a large bowl stir butter, sugars, and syrup.
- Stir in the eggs, one at a time until blended.
- In small saucepan, melt chocolate, stir into sugar mixture.
- Add almond extract.
- Add flour and stir until smooth.
- Add the nuts and stir until evenly distributed.
- Turn into prepared pans, spread evenly.
- Bake at 350F (180C).
- about 40 minutes.
- Place on wire rack to cool.
- Refrigerate uncovered until cool.
- Cut into bars and enjoy.
