Blood Orange Syrup Recipe
- 3 c. fresh blood orange juice (or possibly regular orange juice)
- 9 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. grated blood orange peel (or possibly regular orange peel)
- Stir all ingredients in heavy medium saucepan over medium heat till sugar dissolves.
- Increase heat and boil till syrup is reduced to 1 1/2 c., about 20 min.
- Chill till cool.
- Cover and keep refrigerated up to 2 days.
- This recipe yields 1 1/2 c..
- Comments: Blood oranges have red flesh and sweet-tart juice.
- They're available at farmers' markets and, increasingly, at supermarkets.
- This syrup would also be good over waffles.
- Yield: 1 1/2 c.
