Sloppy Joes for 100

  1. In a large Dutch oven or pan, brown the beef, onions, peppers and celery in batches until meat is browned.
  2. Remove mixture with a slotted spoon to a large roasting pan.
  3. Discard fat.
  4. Stir together the sugar, mustard, ketchup, tomato paste,tomato sauce, 6 cups water, vinegar and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Stir into meat mixture.
  6. If too thick, add up to 2 cups more water.
  7. Cover and simmer for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  8. Serve on the buns.
