Alsatian Gratin Of Roots (Lacto) Recipe

  1. In a 5-6 qt pan (I used a small roaster) cook onions and carrots in 1/2 c. of broth till softened.
  2. Add in to this the parsley.
  3. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes and rutabagas.
  4. Arrange half of the potato/rutabaga combo in the bottom of the pan (I sprayed with Pam first).
  5. Top with half the onion/carrot mix.
  6. Repeat with the other half of the ingredients.
  7. Over the top, pour the rest of the broth.
  8. Cover and bake for 1 1/2 hrs in a 425 degree oven.
  9. Top with cheese and sprinkle with nutmeg.
  10. Broil till cheese is browned.
  11. Makes 10-12 servings
  12. Comment: I wanted to share a recipe that I have been making this winter for my family.
  13. It is a good cool weather dish.
  14. It makes sufficient for a crowd my family (2 adults and 3 teens) only eat about half.
  15. This can be made ahead and chilled till ready to use.
