Mrs. Truman's Martian Cookies

• 1 cup butter
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 12 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda (dissolved in water)
• 14 cup boiling water
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 cups flour
• 2 cups instant oats
• 2 tablespoons milk, for dipping fork in

1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
3. Dissolve baking soda in water cream together butter and sugar, add vanilla, then add water and flour alternating.
4. Make into small balls.
5. On cookie sheet Press flat with fork dipped in milk.
6. cook for 7-9 minutes.
7. till just turning brown on edges.
