Herb Batter Bread
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon dried dried fine herb, crushed (Italian, basil, thyme, etc.)
- 1 14 cups water
- 2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Combine 1 1/2 cups of the flour, the yeast, and fine herbes.
- Heat together the water, butter or margarine, sugar, and salt just till warm (115 to 120 degrees), stirring till butter almost melts.
- Add to yeast mixture.
- Beat at low speed of electric mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping bowl constantly.
- Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
- Stir in remaining flour.
- Cover; let rise till double.
- Stir down dough.
- Spread evenly in greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.
- Cover; let rise till double.
- Bake in a 375 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
- Remove from pan; cool on wire rack.
