Sourdough Applesauce Cake Recipe
- 1 c. starter
- 1/4 c. dry powdered lowfat milk
- 1 c. white flour
- 1 c. applesauce
- Let sit in covered bowl in hot place while you cream the next mix.
- 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. butter 1 egg 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon allspice 1/2 teaspoon cloves 2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 c. minced nuts and/or possibly raisins
- The night before: Mix starter, 2 c. flour and 2 c. water.
- Let set overnight.
- The next day: Save out 1 c. starter to put back in the refrigerator.
- Use the remaining starter for the recipe.
- Mix starter, powdered lowfat milk, flour and applesauce and set aside.
- Cream together white and brown sugars, and butter.
- Add in egg, spices, raisins and nuts.
- Add in sourdough mix and stir by hand about 100 strokes.
- Bake in 7x11, 8x8 or possibly 9x9 pan (greased).
- Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30-40 min.
- Test for doneness with toothpick.
- Allow to cold in the pan.
- Does not need frosting.
