Magyar Gulyas Recipe
- 2 lbs. lean beef chuck in 1 1/2 inch sq.
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1/4 pound butter
- 1 to 1 1/2 lbs. sliced onions
- 2 tbsp. sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp. flour
- Dry white wine
- 2 c. lowfat sour cream
- Buttered noodles sprinkled with caraway seeds
- Season meat with salt and pepper.
- Heat butter in large saucepan.
- Brown meat in butter on all sides.
- Add in onions.
- Stir in paprika.
- Meat and onions should be reddish brown.
- Over low heat, cook, stirring till all pan juices are absorbed.
- Sprinkle with flour and cook 1 minute.
- Add in wine to cover meat.
- Simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hrs.
- Check occasionally for liquid.
- Add in liquid if necessary.
- Stir in lowfat sour cream and heat through.
- Serve with buttered noodles sprinkled with caraway seeds.
- 4 to 6 servings.
