Cape Anne Chowder

  1. Cook and stir bacon in large saucepan on medium heat until crisp.
  2. Remove bacon from pan with slotted spoon, reserving 2 Tbsp.
  3. drippings in pan.
  4. Drain bacon on paper towels.
  5. Add onions to drippings in pan; cook 5 to 6 min.
  6. or until crisp-tender, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add flour; mix well.
  8. Gradually stir in water until blended.
  9. Add vegetables and pepper; stir.
  10. Bring to boil; cover.
  11. Simmer on medium-low heat 20 min.
  12. or until potatoes are tender.
  13. Stir in cheese; cook 2 min.
  14. or until melted, stirring frequently.
  15. Add milk, cod and crabmeat; cook 8 to 10 min.
  16. or until fish is done, stirring occasionally.
  17. Serve topped with bacon.
