Nut Lover's Brownies

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13-inch pan and set aside.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, combine 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup butter.
  3. Cook and stir over low heat until butter is melted and mixture is combined.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 1 egg, 2 tablespoons flour and 1 teaspoon vanilla and mix well.
  5. Stir in all of the nuts and set aside.
  6. In another heavy saucepan, combine 2/3 cup butter with cocoa.
  7. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until butter melts.
  8. Add sugar and 1 cup brown sugar and beat well.
  9. Then add 4 eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla and beat to combine.
  10. Stir in 1-1/4 cups flour and baking powder.
  11. Pour chocolate mixture into prepared pan.
  12. Spoon the nut topping over chocolate mixture in an even layer.
  13. Bake in preheated oven for 30-40 minutes or until just barely set.
  14. Do not overbake or the topping will get too hard.
  15. Cool on a wire rack, then cut into bars.
