Easter Bread (Paska) Recipe
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 c. lukewarm water
- 1 lg. cake yeast
- 3 c. scalded lowfat milk (cold to lukewarm)
- 6 Large eggs, beaten
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. melted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 9 to 10 c. flour
- Dissolve 1 tsp.
- sugar in lukewarm water and sprinkle the yeast over it.
- Let stand 10 min.
- Combine softened yeast with the lukewarm lowfat milk, Large eggs, salt, sugar and melted butter.
- Add in flour a little at a time, kneading well till a soft dough is formed.
- Cover and let rise in hot place.
- Knead again and make into a round bread or possibly loaves.
- Let rise in hot place.
- Brush with a beaten egg yolk diluted with water.
- Bake at 350 degrees till golden about 40 min.
- Pans should be greased.
- Makes 5 loaves.
