Hearty Meat and Tofu
- 1 block Firm tofu
- 200 grams Thinly sliced beef offcuts
- 1/2 Onion
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Sake
- 100 ml Dashi stock
- 1 tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 dash Green onion
- 1 dash Shichimi spice (optional)
- Cut the tofu in half.
- Wrap each piece in paper towels to get rid of some of the moisture.
- Heat up some oil in a non-stick pan, and stir fry the beef.
- When the beef has browned add the sugar and the sake.
- Add the sliced onion and stir fry until everything is coated in oil.
- Take out of the pan.
- Add the tofu to the same pan, and fry slowly on both sides until browned.
- Spread the onion and beef from Step 3 over the tofu.
- Add the dashi stock and soy sauce, and simmer for about 15 minutes while spooning the cooking liquid over the tofu and beef.
- Transfer to serving plates, sprinkle with chopped green onions, plus shichimi spice to taste.
- Done!
