Red Hot County Fair Candy Apple Dumplins
- 1- 1/4 cup Water
- 6 whole Small Granny Smith Apples, Peeled And Cored
- 2 packages Red Hot Candies, 6 Oz. Each
- 1 stick Plus 6 Teaspoons Butter Or Margarine, Divided
- 1 package (9 Oz. Package) Jiffy Brand Pie Crust Mix, Or Your Favorite 2-Crust Recipe
- 6 teaspoons Sugar
- Wash, peel and core Granny Smith apples, set aside.
- In a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat, pour in the water, add 1 stick of butter and the Red Hot candies.
- Melt over heat, keep warm on very low heat, stirring occasionally.
- Mix Jiffy pie crust according to package directions (package typically calls for water only), divide into 6 parts.
- (Alternatively, make your favorite 2-crust recipe.)
- Roll each piece into a large enough circle that will cover one apple.
- Place one apple in the center of the dough, add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon butter to the center of the apple.
- Wrap apple in dough like a package.
- Bring up two opposite sides and seal, then bring up the other two sides and seal.
- You can cut out leaf shapes from any extra dough and place them on top, if desired.
- Place wrapped apples in a 9 x 13 pan that has been lightly sprayed with Pam.
- Pour prepared sauce into the pan, being careful not to pour over the apples.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes until apples are tender.
- After crust begins to brown, gently baste apples with sauce one or two times.
- Serve with extra sauce.
- Make sure not to overbake, as this may cause the dumplings to lose their shape.
