Red Hot County Fair Candy Apple Dumplins

  1. Wash, peel and core Granny Smith apples, set aside.
  2. In a medium sauce pan over medium-low heat, pour in the water, add 1 stick of butter and the Red Hot candies.
  3. Melt over heat, keep warm on very low heat, stirring occasionally.
  4. Mix Jiffy pie crust according to package directions (package typically calls for water only), divide into 6 parts.
  5. (Alternatively, make your favorite 2-crust recipe.)
  6. Roll each piece into a large enough circle that will cover one apple.
  7. Place one apple in the center of the dough, add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon butter to the center of the apple.
  8. Wrap apple in dough like a package.
  9. Bring up two opposite sides and seal, then bring up the other two sides and seal.
  10. You can cut out leaf shapes from any extra dough and place them on top, if desired.
  11. Place wrapped apples in a 9 x 13 pan that has been lightly sprayed with Pam.
  12. Pour prepared sauce into the pan, being careful not to pour over the apples.
  13. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes until apples are tender.
  14. After crust begins to brown, gently baste apples with sauce one or two times.
  15. Serve with extra sauce.
  16. Make sure not to overbake, as this may cause the dumplings to lose their shape.
  17. Enjoy!
