Mexican Chili (North Dakota Style) Recipe
- 1 pound hamburger
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 tbsp. chili pwdr
- 1/4 teaspoon grnd cumin
- 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
- 1 med. onion, chopped
- 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 (8 ounce.) can tomato sauce
- 1 (1 lb.) can pintos (with juice)
- Heat oil in large skillet.
- Brown onion then add in garlic at the last minute.
- Brown meat, breaking up into small pcs.
- Add in chili pwdr, salt and cumin.
- Stir.
- Add in sauce and tomatoes with juice, mashing up tomatoes with back of spoon.
- Bring to a boil then simmer for 30 min, covered, stirring occasionally.
- Add in beans with juice.
- Simmer, covered, for 15 to 20 more min, stirring occasionally.
- Serves 4 to 6.
- (Freezes well.)
