Mother's Apple Dumplings Recipe
- 3 c. sifted flour
- 3 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. lowfat milk
- Sift flour, baking pwdr, salt and sift again.
- Cut in shortening till mix looks like meal.
- Add in lowfat milk, a little at a time.
- Roll dough 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut into circles large sufficient to enclose a small apple.
- Place apples on dough.
- Fill cavities with mix of sugar and cinnamon and dot with butter.
- Bring dough up over apples, joining edges underneath.
- Place in pan, allowing space between dumplings.
- Combine sugar, butter, nutmeg, cinnamon and water and pour into pan with dumplings.
- Bake in warm oven (450 degrees 10 min), then decrease heat (400 degrees).
- Cook 20 min longer or possibly till apples are tender.
- Makes 8 dumplings.
