Shirley's Special

  1. Drain pears, reserving syrup.
  2. Add water to syrup to make 1 cup.
  3. Dissolve jell-0 in boiling water; add measured liquid.
  4. Chill until thickened about 11/2 hours.
  5. Dice pears.
  6. Set aside.
  7. Fold 1/2 cup thickened jell-0 into cool whip, If necessary, chill again until mixture mounds.
  8. Carefully line serving bowl with jell-0 and cool whip mixture, mounding high at edges to form a shell.
  9. Add pears to remaining jell-0; carefully spoon into bowl.
  10. Chill until set, about 2 hours.
