Mary's Caramel's

  1. Mix sugar, Karo and salt.
  2. Place over high heat stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Turn heat to medium, stir constantly to cook to hard ball stage .
  4. Add butter and milk very slow, so that mixture does not stop boiling at any time .
  5. Stir constantly and cook to soft ball stage.
  6. Mixture is thick and burns easily at the last.
  7. Remove from heat,add vanilla and nuts pour into a buttered pan.
  8. Cool before cutting into bite size pieces and wrap with wax paper.
