Sazerac Cocktail

  1. Combine syrup, whiskey and bitters in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Stir gently until whiskey is chilled.
  3. (Don't shake, as you don't want froth in your sazerac.
  4. ).
  5. Coat a chilled glass (old fashioned or martini) with the Pernod.
  6. Pour out any excess (unless you like a stronger anise flavor).
  7. As I am not a traditionalist, sometimes I add more.
  8. Pour the whiskey mixture into the chilled glass.
  9. Twist the lemon peel so it releases its oil, then add to the cocktail.
