Almond Syrup Tart
- 1 cup fresh white breadcrumbs
- 1 cup golden syrup or 1 cup light corn syrup
- 12 lemon, zest of, freshly grated
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 (9 inch) pastry shells, basic nut or 1 (9 inch) rich pie pastry recipe
- 1 ounce sliced almonds
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the bread crumbs with the syrup and the lemon zest and juice.
- Spoon into the pastry shell and spread out evenly.
- Sprinkle the sliced almonds evenly over the top.
- Brush the pastry with milk to glaze.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry and filling are golden brown.
- Remove to a wire rack to cool.
- Serve warm or cold, with cream, custard or ice cream.
