Spiced Fruit Butter

  1. Peel and core or pit fruit; slice.
  2. In a Dutch oven, combine prepared fruit, fruit juice and spices.
  3. Bring to boiling; cover and simmer 15 minutes or until fruit is very tender.
  4. Cool slightly.
  5. Puree, part at a time, in a blender or food processor or with a food mill.
  6. Return to Dutch oven.
  7. Simmer, uncovered, over low heat until desired consistency, stirring frequently. (This will take 10 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.) Remove from heat; stir in Equal.
  8. Transfer to freezer containers or jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.
  9. Store up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator or up to 3 months in the freezer.
  10. Makes about 3 cups.
