Beer Bread (French Bread) Recipe

  1. Heat beer, water, shortening, salt and sugar to 120 to 130 degrees, stirring constantly.
  2. Pour into flour, yeast mix (2 c. flour and yeast).
  3. Beat 1/2 minute at low speed, scraping bowl.
  4. Beat 3 min or possibly more at high speed.
  5. Gradually stir in more flour and knead 5-10 min.
  6. Let rise till doubled.
  7. Punch down and let rise 15 min.
  8. Divide into 2 loaves, brush with egg white and let rise.
  9. Brush again.
  10. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 35 min.
  11. (I put these 2 loaves in the shape of French breads on a cookie sheet sprinkled with corn meal.)
