Shortbread Bars
- 1-1/4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold butter or margarine
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/3 cup maple-flavored or pancake syrup
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1-1/2 cups multi-grain cereal, any variety
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- Mix flour and granulated sugar in medium bowl.
- Cut in 1/2 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press firmly onto bottom of greased 9-inch square baking pan.
- Bake 20 min.
- or until very lightly browned.
- Mix egg, syrup, brown sugar, melted butter and vanilla until well blended.
- Stir in cereal until well coated.
- Spread evenly over warm crust.
- Bake an additional 20 to 25 min.
- or until topping is firm around edges and slightly soft in center.
- Cool on wire rack.
- Cut into 16 bars to serve.
- Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
