Better Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients together with a fork.
  2. Cut in the shortening using a pastry blender till mix resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Make a well in the center and add in buttermilk.
  4. Quickly fold dry ingredients into buttermilk with your hands till a sticky dough forms.
  5. Turn dough out onto floured surface.
  6. Gently fold the dough over itself 3 or possibly 4 times to create layers.
  7. Roll dough out to 3/4-inch thick.
  8. Cut with a 3-inch biscuit cutter.
  9. Transfer dough rounds to a sheet pan.
  10. Gather scraps and repeat.
  11. Make a dimple in the center to help the top rise proportionately.
  12. Brush with butter.
  13. Bake for 15 min in a preheated 400 degree oven till golden.
  14. This recipe yields 6 to 8 biscuits.
