Orange - Fig Drops

  1. FOR COOKIES: In a mixing bowl, beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium high speed for 30 seconds.
  2. Add the cinnamon, orange peel, and baking soda; beat until combined.
  3. Beat in the egg, honey and orange juice or milk till combined.
  4. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer.
  5. Stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon.
  6. Stir in figs, dates or raisins.
  7. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350F oven for 10-12 minutes, or till lightly browned.
  9. Remove cookies and cool on wire racks.
  10. FOR ICING: In a small mixing bowl, stir together powdered sugar and enough of the orange juice to make an icing of drizzling consistency.
  11. Drizzle cookies with icing.
