Fritas Cubanas (Cuban Hamburgers)
- 2 yellow onions, quartered
- 2 (4 ounce) links chorizo sausage, casings removed
- 1 green bell pepper, quartered and seeded
- 6 cloves clove garlic
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 dash ground cumin
- sea salt to taste
- freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or as needed
- 12 hamburger buns, split
- 1 (9 ounce) can shoestring potatoes (such as Pik-Nik(R))
- Place yellow onions, chorizo, green bell pepper, and garlic in a food processor; pulse until minced.
- Transfer onion mixture to a large bowl. Add ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, eggs, ketchup, cumin, salt, and black pepper; mix with your hands until well-blended.
- Form mixture into 12 patties.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook patties in batches until browned and medium well done, about 5 minutes per side.
- Serve cooked patties on hamburger buns topped with shoestring potatoes.
